Job summary

Gaston County Government is seeking a full-time groundskeeping technician for the Solid Waste & Recycling Division. You will perform landscaping tasks, assist with litter control, manage recycling site duties, and help maintain landfill equipment and facilities.

This role requires a High School diploma or GED, a valid NC driver's license, and the ability to work early mornings and alternate Saturdays. You may encounter weather-exposed conditions and occasional carpentry/maintenance tasks.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid North Carolina Driver's License without driving restrictions.
• Must be able to work varying schedules 6:00 am-6:30 pm Mon-Fri and 8:00 am-5:00 pm Sat (every other weekend).
• Must be able to work in conditions that may be unfavorable health and weather-wise.
• Landscaping and carpentry skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Performs landscaping tasks by mowing, weed eating, and edging; cleans around landfill curbs and other duties as assigned.
• Gathers litter and maintains litter fences around lined cells to prevent waste escape.
• Processes recyclables at baling facility; assists with HHW events and voting machine delivery/pick up.
• Collects recyclables from sites and restocks supplies; cleans recycling sites quarterly.
• Inspects and cleans heavy equipment radiators; washes landfill vehicles and fuels equipment as needed.
• Mixes and applies daily cover material to the landfill.
• Controls dust by watering haul roads and manages traffic flow when scales are down.
• Ensures supplies are stocked in scale house and maintenance shop.
