Job summary

Rick Engineering Company (RICK) in Tucson, AZ is seeking a Land Survey Crew Chief to lead field teams on landmark projects. The role involves coordinating with clients, performing coordinate geometry calculations, reading construction plans, and supervising crew members on-site.

Ideal candidates will have 3–5 years’ experience as a Party Crew Chief and an AS in surveying or an equivalent background; LSIT or RLS is a plus. Occasional out-of-town travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years’ experience as a Party Crew Chief and an AS in surveying or seven years’ equivalent work history.
• LSIT or RLS certification is a plus.
• Experience includes construction, topographical, boundary, and aerial control surveys.
• Ability to perform coordinate geometry calculations and direct the work of others.

Responsibilities

• Lead field crew on surveying projects and coordinate with clients and contractors.
• Direct activities of crew, perform calculations, and ensure accuracy.
• Read construction plans and prepare cut sheets as needed.
• Operate and maintain survey equipment (total stations, GPS) and use Trimble Access if applicable.
• Travel 2–3 days every few months; work may require out-of-town assignments.

Qualifications

candidate will have a minimum of 3 - 5-years’ experience as a Party Crew Chief, plus an A.S. in surveying or equivalent work experience of seven years. LSIT OR RLS a plus.

Experience must include construction performance, topographical, boundary, and aerial control surveys.

• Proven ability to perform coordinate geometry calculations using hand-held programmable calculator and direct the work of others.
• Must be familiar with use and maintenance of survey equipment including total stations and GPS systems. Familiarity with Trimble Access a plus.
• Preparation of cut sheets and demonstrated ability to read construction plans.
• Position requires the ability to lift 50 lbs., stand for 8 to 10 hours per day and swing an 8 lb. sledgehammer.
• Candidate must be dependable and display the ability to work well with others as they will be on a survey team.
• Candidate will have experience dealing effectively with clients and contractors.
• Good driving record is a must.
• Position will require periodic out of town work. Typical travel is 2-3 days once every 3 months. There is opportunity for extended out of town work and recommend applying if this is of interest.
