Rick Engineering Company seeks a Project Surveyor in Tucson, AZ to lead and support land survey projects from start to finish, coordinating with clients, agencies, and design teams. You will ensure quality, manage budgets, and contribute to growth of the land survey practice.

The role spans Assistant, Associate, and Principal Survey PM levels; candidates with LSIT/PLS credentials and 5–12+ years of experience will be considered. Relocation assistance may be available.

Qualifications

  • LSIT in practice or higher licensure with related degree.
  • BSLS or related Geomatics/Surveying Engineering Technology degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years in land development or public works surveying.
  • Leadership capability and supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage or support land survey projects from start-up through completion, including research and field/office coordination.
  • Coordinate activity with clients, agencies, design teams, field crews, and staff.
  • Maintain schedule and budget through planning and communication.
  • Prepare or support proposals, scopes, budgets, contracts, and schedules.
  • Ensure quality control by following scopes, CAD standards, and procedures.

This posting covers three career levels-Assistant Survey PM, Associate Survey PM, and Principal Survey PM, and may be filled at the level that best matches the selected candidate’s licensure, experience, leadership capability, and demonstrated project scope.

In this role, you will help deliver accurate, high-quality land survey work; coordinate with clients, agencies, consultants, and internal teams; and contribute to project performance, client satisfaction, and the continued growth of the land survey practice.

How level is determined: Final title and level will be based on the candidate’s credentials, relevant experience, ability to exercise independent judgment, supervisory scope, client responsibility, and business-development contribution.

What You'll Do
  • Manage or support land survey projects from start-up through completion, including research, survey limits, field/office coordination, jurisdictional processing, deliverables, and construction support.
  • Coordinate project activity with clients, governmental agencies, design teams, field crews, analysts, drafters, consultants, and other internal departments.
  • Help keep projects on schedule and within budget through planning, problem-solving, contract administration, billing support, account management, and timely communication.
  • Prepare or support proposals, scopes, budgets, contracts, schedules, and billing documentation in accordance with corporate guidelines.
  • Maintain quality and cost control by following scopes of work, project checklists, CAD standards, the Quality Control Manual, and established corporate standards.
  • Apply land surveying principles and CAD tools to topographic surveys, surfaces and contours, boundary and right-of-way analysis, plats and maps, Records and Results of Survey, utilities, easements, and coordinate geometry calculations.
  • Lead, mentor, train, and coordinate survey staff at a level appropriate to the position; contribute to staffing, performance feedback, and team development.
  • Build constructive relationships and communicate effectively with clients, public agencies, subcontractors, consultants, and coworkers.

Candidates may be considered for one of the following levels:

LSIT in the state of practice. BSLS or a related Geomatics/Surveying Engineering Technology degree (or equivalent) plus a minimum of 5 years of land development and/or public works surveying experience; or 9 years of equivalent relevant experience

Typically 0-2 staff, as assigned.

Associate Survey PM

Independently manages projects and client coordination, makes effective surveying decisions, contributes to proposals and account management, and manages and develops project staff.

RLS/PLS plus a BSLS or related degree plus a minimum of 7 years of land development and/or public works surveying experience; or 10 years of equivalent relevant experience. Must possess Assistant-level capabilities.

Typically 1-3 staff, as assigned.

Leads complex projects and key client relationships, authors proposals, supports new business development, oversees team performance, and contributes to the successful operation and growth of the land survey group.

RLS/PLS plus a BSLS or related degree plus a minimum of 8 years of land development and/or public works surveying experience; or 12 years of equivalent relevant experience. Must possess Assistant- and Associate-level capabilities.

Typically 1-5 staff, as assigned.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of land survey techniques, tools, quality standards, and the production of precise technical plans, drawings, maps, and models.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to evaluate alternatives, solve problems, and make decisions appropriate to the position's level of responsibility.
  • Working knowledge of CAD applications; familiarity with company CAD standards and quality-control procedures is strongly valued.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain information clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Effective organization and time management, including the ability to manage personal priorities and coordinate the work of others.
  • A client-service mindset and productive relationships with agencies, clients, consultants, subcontractors, and coworkers.
  • Professional composure, a positive attitude, receptiveness to feedback, and effectiveness under pressure.
  • A good driving record and the ability to drive a personal or company vehicle for business purposes, as needed.
