Job summary

New York City Police Department's Information Technology Services Division seeks a Computer Associate Operations III to plan and deliver citywide IT diagnostics, AD administration, and hardware provisioning. The role balances routine service desk tasks, remote user support, and hands-on equipment maintenance in a large municipal environment.

Key duties include AD administration, hardware rollouts, and lifecycle refreshes, with emphasis on documenting procedures and ensuring uptime.

Qualifications

  • Minimum professional/vendor certification(s) in LAN administration.
  • Two years of full-time IT experience with LAN/WAN planning, design, and security management or six years with a high school diploma.
  • Education may substitute for experience per policy; master’s may substitute for one year.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and deploy workstations, servers, printers, and peripherals citywide.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and health checks on desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals.
  • Identify and fix hardware/software problems; document corrective actions to reduce downtime.
  • Execute large-scale hardware rollouts and lifecycle refreshes; coordinate vendor repairs.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues; use remote access tools to minimize downtime.
  • Administer Active Directory; manage OUs, SGs, data-share permissions, and GPOs.
  • Maintain service tickets, troubleshooting notes, and asset records; document SOPs/runbooks.
  • Support ITB initiatives and multi-site field operations.
  • Provide supervisors with updates on outages, issues, and milestones; ensure confidentiality.
