Job summary

WestRock Company in Houston, TX is seeking a Laminating Helper to support the laminator operator. You’ll assist with setup, operation, cleanup, and improving efficiency, quality and safety on the line.

You will set up the laminator, inspect labels, maintain storage, monitor sheet quality, and ensure proper glue application while maximizing equipment utilization. Training and maintenance tasks may be required on the 2nd shift (M-F 1:15pm-9:45pm).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Prior work experience in corrugated industry preferred.
• 6 months experience in the Press or Finishing Department preferred.
• Able to read and follow factory masters.
• Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy; capable of basic math.

Responsibilities

• Assist in setting up laminator per proper setup techniques.
• Inspect labels for specification, trim, and registration accuracy.
• Maintain and organize label storage; provide inventories to sales and accounting.
• Monitor sheet quality: loose liner, warp, and correct size.
• Check glue roll for proper application.
• Operate and maximize equipment capacity and speed.
• Cross-train on other machines as needed.
• Assist with timely production data, status, safety, and quality reports.
• Submit maintenance work orders and support equipment upkeep.
• Adhere to safety and housekeeping policies and production schedules.

LAMINATING HELPER

$19-$19/HR

M-F 5 1:15pm-9:45pm avg 40-65 hr/wk (2nd Shift)

The Opportunity:

Responsible for assisting the operator in all activities associated with running the laminator including setup, operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements to operations.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

• Assist in setting-up laminator accurately in accordance with proper setup techniques.
• Inspect labels before run to ensure that label is to specification, particularly trim and registration.
• Maintain and keep orderly the label storage area. Provide inventories to sales management and accounting.
• Monitor corrugated sheet quality, including, but not limited to, loose liner, warp, and correct size.
• Check glue roll for proper glue application.
• Maximize the utilization of equipment by operating the machinery at available capacity and speed.
• Maintain file of Mylars for registration for repeat orders.
• Cross-train on other machines as needed
• Assist with completing necessary reports in an accurate and timely manner, including but not limited to: Production Data, Machine Operational Status, Safety Data, Quality Data.
• Turn in maintenance work orders to supervision for needed repairs. Be proactive in the maintenance of equipment.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
• Adheres to production schedule.
• May be assigned to other projects and duties

What you need to succeed:

• High school diploma or GED
• Prior work experience in the corrugated industry, preferred
• 6 months experience in the Press or Finishing Department, preferred
• Able to read and follow instructions on factory masters.
• Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy. Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate. Able to apply concepts of high school math.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form. Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Capable of prioritizing multiple tasks, show sense of urgency
• Able to provide and communicate sound information to Management
