Job Summary

The Cook 1’s primary responsibility is to prepare the highest quality food consistently and efficiently to Harkins’ recipes and standards, as well as prepare and portion food products prior to cooking. This cook plays an integral part in the financial success of the restaurant. It is the cook 1’s responsibility to accurately and efficiently prepare and portion food products prior to service. The cook will also perform other duties in the areas of food and final plate preparation, including plating and garnishing of cooked items as necessary.

Essential Functions:

  1. Prepare menu ingredients following a recipe to produce consistent results.
  2. Complete daily prep list, maintain station throughout shift, follow all specifications, and stock items as needed.
  3. Rinse and cut raw food products.
  4. Portion products and follow recipes to ensure plate presentation looks great and is consistent.
  5. Comply consistently with portion sizes, quality standards and kitchen rules, policies, and procedures.
  6. Stock and maintain sufficient levels of food products at line stations to ensure a smooth service period.
  7. Prepare items for broiling, grilling, sautéing or other cooking methods based off recipe requirements.
  8. Follow proper plate presentation and garnish set up for all dishes.
  9. Handle, label, store, and rotate all products properly.
  10. Conduct proper temperature checks of all food and document using the appropriate standard procedures.
  11. Follow sanitization standards, ensure workstation stays clean and organized, and follow all food handling standards.
  12. Communicate promptly and courteously with all guests.
  13. Communicate effectively with management and staff.
  14. Maintain a clean working environment and follow operating checklists.
  15. Follow all applicable liquor laws and company policies.
  16. Understand and follow proper rules of hygiene and food safety measures.
  17. Present a professional image and able to communicate clearly and courteously.
  18. Maintain a professional appearance and working environment while setting a positive and professional example.
  19. Set high standards for self while maintaining company standards, policies, and procedures to always ensure delivery of the ultimate moviegoing experience.
  20. Flexible during shift to ensure smooth and efficient operation of the theatre as directed.
  21. Follow policies and safety procedures to Harkins’ standards.

Additional Duties

  1. Assist the team with additional tasks when necessary. Communicate with team members and management consistently.
  2. Stay informed of daily theatre operations, special events, promotions, and updated policies.
  3. Perform special projects and tasks as assigned.

Education/Skills/Experience

  1. Preferably 1 year experience in basic kitchen preparation.
  2. Required to be at least 18 years of age.
  3. Available to work nights, holidays and/or weekends.
  4. Able to work in a fast-paced, loud environment and in a standing position for extended periods of time.
  5. Required to obtain and maintain a current food handler’s card and/or food safety certification.
  6. Requires bending, stretching, reaching, squatting, twisting, standing, walking up and down stairs and on flat surfaces, lifting (up to 50 pounds), interacting with guests and employees, problem solving, and cognitive skills.
  7. Able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace and possess basic math skills, be fiscally responsible and operate a point-of-sale system.
  8. A professional image with an increased attention to detail, well organized and a desire to serve guests and enjoy working as part of a team.
  9. Capable of remaining calm and using good judgment in all situations.
  10. Organized with strong attention to detail and ability to exercise judgment and discretion in maintaining confidential and sensitive information.
  11. Able to prioritize and work on multiple projects and tasks with frequent interruptions while maintaining flexibility and composure.
