The beautiful Shangri-La Resort, located at the tip of Monkey Island in the center of northeast Oklahoma's Grand Lake O' the Cherokees, is currently taking applications for seasonal workers. JOB OVERVIEW:

This position entails using a wide array of cooking techniques to prepare food for enterprise guests, including basic skills in meat and fish butchery, preparation of stocks and sauces, proper storage of stocks, cleaning and maintaining work areas and kitchens, and overall production for all Food & Beverage venues.

Under the direct supervision of the Room Chef, the cook will be responsible for preparing foods according to standardized recipes, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring all food safety regulations are followed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Cooks and prepares a variety of foods according to the menu and demand.
  2. Uses proper knife skills, cooking techniques, and terminology.
  3. Reads and follows standardized recipes.
  4. Maintains clean and organized work areas, following health and safety regulations.
  5. Communicates with Room Chefs about food and product needs.
  6. Ensures all venues are ready to open on time.
  7. Responsible for proper storage and labeling of food items.
  8. Contributes to a team effort and performs other duties as required.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Two years of recent cooking experience or equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years or older and able to pass a background check.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment, safety practices, basic sauces, stocks, and butchery techniques.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Standing for long periods, constant hand use, walking, occasional sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

High noise, heat, fumes, and steam in a restaurant and resort setting. May require morning, evening, holiday, and weekend shifts with irregular hours.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
  • Deliver exceptional guest service and maintain Shangri-La's high standards.
  • Follow work policies, be punctual, and adapt positively to changes.
  • Adhere to safety and security policies, including chemical handling and emergency procedures.
