Job summary

ANTHC in Alaska is seeking an experienced Lactation Consultant RN to provide safe, family-centered lactation care within the Alaska Native Medical Center.

You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate feeding plans for breastfeeding and chest-feeding dyads, collaborating with the health care team to support newborns and pumping parents.

The role requires an IBCLC, Alaska RN license, BLS, and NRP, with opportunities for professional development and cross-disciplinary learning.

Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Alaska.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card.
  • Current International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
  • Participation in 30 hours every 2 years of continuing education.

Responsibilities

  • Provides lactation support and services to the breastfeeding/chest‑feeding dyad, including management, care planning, education, and instruction.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers, and advocates for the nursing dyad.
  • Performs inpatient consultations, telephone triage, and prenatal education as appropriate.
  • Uses evidence to develop feeding plans addressing individual needs while respecting family goals.
  • Assesses the adequacy of breastfeeding and provides interventions.
  • Assists parents to establish and maintain milk supply and storage.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team for discharge continuity.
  • Teaches, coaches, supports, and mentors nursing staff in best lactation practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
