Job summary

Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) is seeking a Lactation Consultant RN to provide safe, family-centered lactation support within the Alaska Native Medical Center. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to develop feeding plans for newborns and chest-fed infants, applying IBCLC standards and clinical expertise.

Qualifications

  • Current RN license in Alaska.
  • IBCLC certification is required.
  • NRP and BLS certifications are required.
  • Minimum 30 hours of continuing education every 2 years; 16 hours must be in area of practice.
  • Knowledge of lactation and IBLCE scope of practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide lactation support and services to breastfeeding/chest-feeding dyad and pumping parent.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers.
  • Perform inpatient consultations, telephone triage, and prenatal education as appropriate.
  • Develop feeding plans using current evidence while respecting family goals.
  • Assess adequacy of breastfeeding and provide necessary interventions.
  • Collaborate with the care team to ensure continuity of care after discharge.
  • Teach and mentor staff to promote evidence-based lactation practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
