General Duties And Responsibilities
- Support the vision, mission, and guiding principles of the City.
- Observe all applicable Safety, Health, and Environmental rules and guidelines when performing procedures. Use appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Attend relevant training opportunities and seminars.
- Follow City operating procedures, benefit rules, employment, and safety policies/practices.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Cut grass using power equipment and hand tools.
- Load and unload materials such as dirt, asphalt, salt, storm drain pipes, and sign materials.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
- Perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods under all weather conditions, with the ability to lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Assist in fabricating and installing street signs.
- Manually remove litter from right-of-ways and easements.
- May sit, stand, and walk constantly depending on daily tasks.
- Climb in and out of manholes up to ten feet deep.
- Climb ladders to complete assigned tasks.
- Operate various tools including jackhammers, pavement breakers, shovels, sledgehammers, post drivers, tamp bars, chainsaws, weed eaters, backpack blowers, and other hand tools.
- Operate vehicles such as dump trucks, tractors, riding mowers, and backhoes.
- Maintain and care for all assigned tools properly.
- Remove and replace pavement in compliance with safety requirements.
- Use safety gear like gloves, vests, goggles, harnesses, and safety signs appropriately.
- Participate in monthly safety meetings.
- Secure city equipment to ensure safety of employees and citizens.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Scope
This role involves repetitive work with minor routine changes, requiring high accuracy and effective use of procedures. Errors can impact performance and resource utilization. Work is performed under clear instructions, with priorities set by supervision. The job involves physically demanding tasks such as digging, lifting, and breaking pavement under various weather conditions, with exposure to elements and chemicals.
Communications/Customer Contact
Contacts span the entire city community and involve leadership roles. Building good community relations is essential for supporting city programs and initiatives.

Education and Experience
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. required.
- High school diploma or GED preferred; work experience may substitute.
- Previous construction or maintenance experience is a plus.

- Knowledge of and ability to learn about tools, equipment, and safety precautions.
- Punctuality and ability to work full shifts.
- Flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Ability to perform frequent overtime, including late nights or early mornings.
