Job summary

SA Recycling, a leader in the metals recycling industry, is seeking dependable Laborers to unload, process, and disassemble scrap metal. You will work outdoors in varying weather, adhere to safety standards, and support yard operations from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (M-F) with Saturday half-days.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred or equivalent experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively; understand directions; basic math skills.
• Bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

• Unload pallets, boxes and bundles; assist in unloading and sorting materials.
• Assist in material handling and sorting; push, pull, lift, carry, and fill hoppers and conveyors.
• Disassemble small equipment and cut wires; remove bolts and parts.
• Use recycling equipment (shears, band saw, wire strippers) for processing metal.
• Direct yard traffic and perform light maintenance/housekeeping.
• Organize materials to maximize space and maintain clean, safe work areas.

Job description

SA Recycling, a leader in the metals recycling industry, is looking for dependable, safety minded individuals to join our team as a Laborer. As a Laborer you will be responsible for the unloading, processing, and disassembly of various types of scrap metal; yard clean up and maintenance; and other general physical labor duties to ensure the highest quality of scrap material is processed and shipped to our customers in a safe, effective manner.

This position will work outside in varying weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

Operating hours hours are from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, and from 7:30 am to 11:15 am on Saturdays. Overtime may be scheduled as needed.

Responsibilities Of a Laborer

• Provide a positive customer experience by answering questions; assisting in the unloading and sorting of materials; educating customers on acceptable materials; and thanking them for their business.
• Unloading pallets, boxes and bundles
• Material handling/sorting - pushing, pulling, picking, lifting, carrying, and filling up hoppers, boxes adn conveyor belts
• Unpacking boxes using box cutters, separating plastics, zip ties, blister packs and other packaging materials
• Disassembling small equipment, cutting wires, torquing pipefittings, removing bolts, automobile parts and appliance parts
• Work with recycling equipment for processing metal product i.e. metal shears, band saw and wire strippers
• Direct traffic of yard vehicles traveling through yard
• Light facility maintenance - painting, scraping, moving furniture and equipment
• Maintenance - selecting and using tools properly, pulling and installing parts for machinery, working with other employees to assist machinery repair
• Housekeeping - sweeping, cleaning, shoveling and debris collection
• Moderate and periodic landscaping work
• Clean up work area at the end of shift
• Keep work areas neat and orderly
• Regular attendance and punctuality are essential job functions
• Organizing materials to have more effective use of space
• Dispose of various waste materials in the appropriate manner
• Inspection to ensure cleanup is completed
• Effective housekeeping in workplace area is an ongoing operation for safety and better hygienic conditions for all team members
• Perform all other duties as assigned

Qualifications Of a Laborer

• High School diploma, GED Certification, or equivalent work experience preferred.
• Ability to communicate with others effectively; understand direction (written or oral) and use basic math skills as the job demands
• Skid Loader/Skid Steer/Forklift experience preferred.
• Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) a plus.
• Willingness to learn how to: sort metal, identify colors, shapes, and weights; properly maintain equipment; properly utilize PPE
• Must pass a medical physical/drug test and background check
• Ability to learn new tasks as assigned required.
