Job summary

SA Recycling is seeking dependable, safety-minded Laborers to unload, process, and disassemble scrap metal. The role includes yard cleanup, maintenance, and operating recycling equipment in all weather. Work hours are typically 8:00 am–4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, with Saturday shifts possible.

Responsibilities include material handling, sorting, unloading pallets and boxes, and ensuring clean, safe work areas. Candidates should be able to pass background checks and a medical/drug screen.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; ability to understand directions (written or oral).
• Willingness to learn metal sorting, PPE usage, and equipment maintenance.
• Ability to pass medical, drug test, and background check.

Responsibilities

• Unload, process, and disassemble scrap metal; assist in yard cleanup and maintenance.
• Operate or assist with recycling equipment; sort materials and inspect for quality.
• Direct traffic of yard vehicles and perform light facility maintenance.
• Maintain a neat, safe work area; follow safety standards and housekeeping practices.
• Provide positive customer experience and educate customers on acceptable materials.

Job description

SA Recycling, a leader in the metals recycling industry, is looking for dependable, safety minded individuals to join our team as a Laborer. As a Laborer you will be responsible for the unloading, processing, and disassembly of various types of scrap metal; yard clean up and maintenance; and other general physical labor duties to ensure the highest quality of scrap material is processed and shipped to our customers in a safe, effective manner.

This position will work outside in varying weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

Operating hours are from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, and from 7:30 am to 11:15 am on Saturdays. Overtime may be scheduled as needed.

Responsibilities of a Laborer

• Provide a positive customer experience by answering questions; assisting in the unloading and sorting of materials; educating customers on acceptable materials; and thanking them for their business.
• Unloading pallets, boxes and bundles
• Material handling/sorting - pushing, pulling, picking, lifting, carrying, and filling up hoppers, boxes and conveyor belts
• Unpacking boxes using box cutters, separating plastics, zip ties, blister packs and other packaging materials
• Disassembling small equipment, cutting wires, torquing pipe fittings, removing bolts, automobile parts and appliance parts
• Work with recycling equipment for processing metal product i.e. metal shears, band saw and wire strippers
• Direct traffic of yard vehicles traveling through yard
• Light facility maintenance - painting, scraping, moving furniture and equipment
• Maintenance - selecting and using tools properly, pulling and installing parts for machinery, working with other employees to assist machinery repair
• Housekeeping - sweeping, cleaning, shoveling and debris collection
• Moderate and periodic landscaping work
• Clean up work area at the end of shift
• Keep work areas neat and orderly
• Regular attendance and punctuality are essential job functions
• Organizing materials to have more effective use of space
• Dispose of various waste materials in the appropriate manner
• Inspection to ensure cleanup is completed
• Effective housekeeping in workplace area is an ongoing operation for safety and better hygienic conditions for all team members
• Perform all other duties as assigned

Qualifications of a Laborer

• High School diploma, GED Certification, or equivalent work experience preferred.
• Ability to communicate with others effectively; understand direction (written or oral) and use basic math skills as the job demands
• Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) a plus.
• Willingness to learn how to: sort metal, identify colors, shapes, and weights; properly maintain equipment; properly utilize PPE
• Must pass a medical physical/drug test and background check
• Ability to learn new tasks as assigned required.
