Job summary

SA Recycling in Tennessee is seeking hard-working Laborers to unload, inspect, process, and disassemble scrap metal while maintaining a clean and safe yard. You will assist customers, locate materials, and help ensure materials are prepared for shipment to customers.

The role requires 1 year of general labor experience in scrap metal or construction, and forklift or skid steer experience is preferred. Bi-lingual English/Spanish is a plus, with a strong emphasis on safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
• 1 year of general labor in scrap metal or construction preferred.
• Forklift/Skid Steer experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.
• Direct and assist customers to the unloading area.
• Inspect incoming material for non-conforming scrap and debris.
• Identify and grade ferrous and nonferrous material for upgrade potential.
• Prepare autos for processing by removing designated parts and fluids.
• Operate equipment such as forklift and skid steer to move material around the yard.
• Perform daily inspections on equipment and report defects.
• General cleanup and yard maintenance including digging and weed control.
• Provide backup or assistance throughout the yard as needed.
• Comply with all SA Recycling safety, health, and environmental rules and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

We are looking for hard-working, reliable and safety minded individuals to join our team as a Laborer. As a Laborer you will be responsible for the unloading, inspecting, processing, and disassembly of various types of scrap metal; yard clean up and maintenance; and other general physical labor duties to ensure the highest quality of scrap material is processed and shipped to our customers in a safe, effective manner.

Responsibilities of a Laborer

• Provide a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.
• Direct and assist customers to the proper location for the unloading of material.
• Inspect incoming material to identify non-conforming or unacceptable types of scrap metal and debris.
• Identify and grade acceptable ferrous and nonferrous material and identify material for upgrade potential.
• Prepare autos for processing, such as the removal of designated parts, fluids, etc.
• Operate equipment such as a forklift and skid steer to load, unload, and move material around the yard.
• Perform daily inspections on equipment reporting any defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
• General clean up and yard maintenance including but not limited to digging, sweeping, and maintenance of weeds and brush.
• Provide backup or assistance throughout the yard as needed or assigned.
• Comply with all applicable federal, state, local, & SA Recycling safety, health, & environmental rules, regulations, policies, & procedures.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications of a Laborer

• High School diploma, GED Certification, or equivalent work experience.
• 1-year previous general labor in the scrap metal or construction industries preferred.
• Skid Loader/Skid Steer/Forklift experience preferred.
• Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) a plus.
• Ability to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
• Ability to learn new tasks as assigned required.
