Job summary

SA Recycling LLC in Portland, TN is seeking a Laborer to unload, inspect, process, and disassemble scrap metal and to keep the yard clean and organized for safe, efficient shipping of material to customers.

The role requires safety-minded individuals who can follow written or spoken instructions, operate basic yard equipment such as a forklift or skid steer, and work in outdoor conditions. Competitive pay with benefits and weekly pay offered.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
• 1 year of general labor in scrap metal or construction preferred.
• Bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus.
• Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.
• Direct and assist customers to the proper location for unloading material.
• Inspect incoming material to identify non-conforming or unacceptable types of scrap metal and debris.
• Identify and grade acceptable ferrous and nonferrous material and identify material for upgrade potential.
• Prepare autos for processing, such as removal of designated parts and fluids.
• Operate equipment such as a forklift and skid steer to load, unload, and move material around the yard.
• Perform daily inspections on equipment reporting any defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
• General yard clean up and maintenance; assist as needed.
• Comply with all SA Recycling safety rules and procedures.

Job description

We are looking for hard-working, reliable and safety minded individuals to join our team as a Laborer. As a Laborer you will be responsible for the unloading, inspecting, processing, and disassembly of various types of scrap metal; yard clean up and maintenance; and other general physical labor duties to ensure the highest quality of scrap material is processed and shipped to our customers in a safe, effective manner.

Responsibilities of a Laborer

• Provide a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.

• General clean up and yard maintenance including but not limited to digging, sweeping, and maintenance of weeds and brush.
• Provide backup or assistance throughout the yard as needed or assigned.
• Comply with all applicable federal, state, local, & SA Recycling safety, health, & environmental rules, regulations, policies, & procedures.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications of a Laborer

• High School diploma, GED Certification, or equivalent work experience.
• 1-year previous general labor in the scrap metal or construction industries preferred.
• Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) a plus.
• Ability to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
• Ability to learn new tasks as assigned required.
