Job summary

College of the Desert is seeking an on-site Lab Assistant to support instructors by planning, organizing, and presenting classroom and laboratory materials. You will set up supplies, assist with experiments, and help maintain a safe and orderly lab environment.

Responsibilities include tutoring, maintaining records, safeguarding equipment, and assisting with tests and reports. The role involves occasional driving, inventory control, and collaboration with academic staff.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent with some college coursework in a related subject.
• Four years’ experience in the field with at least one year in a laboratory setting.
• Valid California driver’s license and insurability as required by the District.

Responsibilities

• Assist instructors in planning, organizing, preparing and presenting classroom and laboratory materials; set up supplies and equipment.
• Tutor students individually or in small groups in a variety of instructional situations.
• Oversee safety and security of instructional materials and equipment.
• Maintain laboratory environment in a safe, clean and orderly condition; manage chemical applications when required.
• Maintain storeroom and inventory records; perform minor maintenance on landscape equipment and vehicles.
• Receive, issue, store and care for instructional materials; maintain facilities in a clean and orderly condition.
• Administer and score tests; maintain student records and test files; develop reports as requested.
• Maintain hazardous materials storage and handling.
