Pay Range: Hiring Range: $22.16 - $26.04 Per Hour; Full Range: $22.16 - $29.92 Per Hour

Pima County Wastewater Reclamation Department seeks talented individuals to join our Compliance and Regulatory Affairs Laboratory team. If you have experience in laboratory analysis or a bachelor’s degree in science (e.g., chemistry, biology, environmental science), your skills can help protect human health and the environment. Our state-of-the-art environmental laboratory in Pima County performs tasks including collecting samples from Water Reclamation Facilities and analyzing water samples using methods like titration, spectroscopy, gravimetric analysis, and others. If this interests you, consider joining our team.

Work hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with operation 365 days a year. Working some holidays, weekends, and schedule adjustments are required.

Essential Functions
  • Collects water, solid waste, and wastewater effluent samples for laboratory testing.
  • Performs standardized laboratory tests such as BOD, COD, DO, Bacteriological Examination, Alkalinity, Hardness, pH, Chlorine, Solids Testing, and other tests required by regulatory agencies.
  • Analyzes microbiological organisms like E. coli and Total Coliform.
  • Operates, calibrates, and maintains laboratory equipment including UV/VIS Spectrophotometers, balances, DO meters, pH meters, and robotic instruments.
  • Performs acid neutralization, thermometer calibrations, and safety checks.
  • Prepares laboratory waste for disposal according to proper procedures.
  • Maintains inventory records for equipment, chemicals, supplies, and hazardous materials.
  • Maintains facilities and equipment, adhering to safety standards and updating safety data sheets.
  • Maintains manual and electronic records of testing and quality control measures.
  • Reviews and updates standard operating procedures for testing.
  • Assists in training new staff and participates in audits and performance evaluations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in chemistry, biology, microbiology, environmental science, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Two years of experience performing standard laboratory tests or instrumental analyses.

Preferred
  • Entry level, full-time position in research, analysis, or related fields within wellness and fitness services.
