Job summary

Coastal Gulf & International is seeking a Lab Technician in Bon Secours Plantation, LA to perform routine analytical tests under supervision and support the laboratory's quality objectives.

You will set up and operate equipment, calibrate instruments, prepare solutions, and record results in LIMS. The ideal candidate has a chemistry degree (or equivalent experience), strong attention to detail, and good communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or a related science preferred, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of direct transferable laboratory experience.
• Knowledgeable in ASTM standards.
• Must be able to work with all chemical, petrochemical and petroleum products.
• Must be able to differentiate between colors accurately by sight.
• Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) experience preferred.
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Access.
• Have a great work history with a track record of being a responsible individual.
• Detailed oriented and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic analytical tests based on standards and procedures as assigned by the Laboratory Manager.
• Assist and perform the setting up, adjusting and operating laboratory equipment.
• Calibrate laboratory instruments as needed to ensure that analysis is accurate according to the Quality Management systems.
• Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment.
• Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
• Record test results on standardized forms and write test reports describing procedures used.
• Understand and complete laboratory raw data sheets and make accurate entries into LIMS database.
• Exercise procedural, safety and quality requirements specified in the Laboratory Manual & Safety Manual and company policies.
• All other duties are assigned by management.

Job Title: Lab Technician

Status: Regular Full Time

Job Purpose:

Lab Technicians perform routine laboratory tests under close supervision to determine the chemical or physical characteristics of samples. Lab Technicians ensure that their duties are completed accurately and delivered with high quality in a timely manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform basic analytical tests based on standards and procedures as assigned by the Laboratory Manager.
• Assist and perform the setting up, adjusting and operating laboratory equipment.
• Calibrate laboratory instruments as needed to ensure that analysis is accurate according to the Quality Management systems.
• Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment.
• Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
• Records test results on standardized forms and write test reports describing procedures used.
• Understand and complete laboratory raw data sheets and make accurate entries into LIMS database.
• Ability to read and comprehend all analysis as well as safety standards in English, including ASTM, UOP, IP and other well-defined analytical standards and procedures used in the laboratory.
• Exercise procedural, safety and quality requirements specified in the Laboratory Manual & Safety Manual and company policies.
• All other duties are assigned by management.

Requirements:

Physical requirements:

• Required to walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms; and to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or twist body to fit and/or reach.
• The employee’s lifting requirement and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
• Be able to work in the presence of odors typical of petroleum or petrochemicals without allergic reactions or nausea, when such odors are within OSHA-designated permissible exposure limits (PELs).
• May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
