Responsibilities

  • Adheres to University and department policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Performs waived and moderate complexity laboratory analysis on selected samples for patients and assists in quality control checks.
  • Performs x-rays on patients and trains additional personnel on imaging techniques.
  • Maintains records of all laboratory work and supplies, and assists in ordering lab and x-ray supplies.
  • Practices universal precautions of health care and performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Obtainsspecimens for laboratory testing via venipuncture, finger sticks and swabs,assists in processing medical laboratory tests and documenting results.Processes x-rays.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Adheres to University anddepartment policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Performs waived andmoderate complexity laboratory analysis on selected samples for patientssuch as blood counts, mono test, strep test, pregnancy test, chlamydia,sickle cell, various chemistry tests, urinalysis, wet prep, KOH, etc. Assists in performing quality controlchecks on all testing kits and instruments. Assists in proficiency testingon known samples of CLIA rules.
  • Performs x-rays onpatients and trains additional personnel on imaging techniques
  • Assists in maintainingall service on instruments. Assists in keeping records of all laboratory workdone, maintenance, and any specimens sent out of laboratory. Cross-trained in ordering of lab and x-raysupplies
  • Practices universalprecautions of health care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Associatesdegree and 2 years experience withphlebotomy and lab specimen processing.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient in standard laboratory equipment such aschemistry analyzers, centrifuge, hematology instruments and limitedmicroscopy necessary to perform waived and moderate complexity testing andphlebotomy skills.
  • Excellent phlebotomy skills including appropriatetechnique, familiarity with proper collection devices for ordered labs andknowledge of appropriate storage needs for specimens.
  • Proficient in pipetting.
  • Knowledge of proper digital Xray techniques andpositioning to capture views as ordered by providers.
  • Utilizes personal and network computers, imagingmachine, photocopy machine, scanner, fax machine and calculator.
  • Proficient in the following software: MicrosoftWord, Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Electronic Health Record Software(experience with PyraMed electronic health record softwarepreferred).
Preferred Qualifications

X-raytraining preferred (or willingness to be trained within first 30-60 days ofemployment).
Previous healthcare laboratory experience preferred
