Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Performs manual cleaning of assigned building(s) using proper methods and materials.
  • Operates commercial cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaners, carpet machines, etc.).
  • Cleans classrooms, bathrooms, entrances, windows, and floors.
  • Cleans large public areas and venues used for events.
  • Responds to emergencies after hours to protect facilities.
  • Works as a member of Physical Plant Essential Personnel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Custodial Leadership.

Job Summary

Performs manual cleaning of the assigned building(s). Uses proper methods and materials in cleaning and care for the building area and equipment, participates in the care, cleaning, and general maintenance of the buildings that are assigned, completing all tasks including football, baseball, work orders, etc. as assigned.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs manual cleaningof the assigned building(s). Uses proper methods and materials in cleaningand care for the building area and equipment, participates in the care,cleaning, and general housekeeping of the buildings that are assigned,completing all tasks including football, baseball, work orders, etc.) as assigned.
  • Must be able to showknowledge on the following types of equipment: commercial vacuum cleaners (uprights andbackpack vacuums), wet/dry vac, backpack blower, shower machine, andcarpet machines.
  • Sweeps, mops, and scrubsfloors; cleans classrooms to include cleaning of desks and tables,chalkboards, white-boards and erasers; washes windows, walls, blinds,trash cans, air conditioning grills, glass and doors. Cleans bathrooms, replenishes supplies,and cleans drinking fountains in assigned buildings. Cleans and polishesbrass and stainless steel. Empties trash inside and outside buildings,sweeps entrances and outside steps, ramps, sidewalks, and cleans buildingssigns. Cleans entrances (including windows, door areas, and entrancemats), sweeps and mops stairwells, vacuums carpeted areas.
  • Cleans large public areassuch as football stadium, basketball coliseum, baseball stadium, and BennettAuditorium. Cleans areas used for special events on campus before andafter the events.
  • Unlocks buildings andcleans other areas as assigned in coverage zones.
  • Responds to emergencysituations during and after hours. Emergency situations mayinclude;property damage, personal injury, water leaks, flooding,overflowing restroom fixtures, broken window or door glass,andaccidents resulting in the appearance of bodily fluids (blood, vomitwaste, and urine).
  • Serves as a member of thePhysical Plant Essential Personnel and as directed by the Physical Plantparticipates in pre-emergency preparations and post emergency recoveryefforts.
  • Additional duties asassigned by Custodial Leadership.
Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or general education degree (GED).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures, professional standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures, and the use of custodial materials, tools, equipment, and chemicals.
  • Skill in managing ones’ own time while completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to listen to, understand, and follow instructions.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
  • Ability to react and respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
  • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.
  • Ability to operate personal computer with a general understanding of application software, and an understanding of the internet.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications

Three (3) months of related experience in a higher education setting or commercial cleaning environment.
