Job summary

Memorial Health System is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to receive and process specimens, clean lab equipment, maintain supplies, and perform clerical duties within a fast-paced laboratory. The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, and BLS certification (to be obtained during orientation).

Phlebotomy experience is preferred; strong communication, data entry and teamwork skills are essential. You will work with Meditech, Atlas and Quest systems, assist training of new staff, and help

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
• Minimum 1 year hospital phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required – will obtain during hospital orientation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to speak English clearly.
• Handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Receive laboratory samples and check order accuracy.
• Prioritize STAT, urgent, timed and routine orders.
• Maintain adequate stock of supplies and prepare site batches in Meditech.
• Use Atlas and Quest systems to communicate and order tests.
• Label, centrifuge, aliquot and process specimens.
• Assist with clerical duties: recalling results, faxing reports, and calling alert values to physicians.
• Assist with training new employees and students.
• Clean lab equipment including centrifuges, counters, and printers.
