Job summary

City of Modesto is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor for the Wastewater team to plan, organize, and supervise laboratory staff and operations. The role ensures compliance with federal and state mandates and quality assurance for storm water, pretreatment sampling, and industrial discharges into the wastewater system.

Essential functions include developing analysis schedules, supervising staff, preparing reports, and coordinating with the Water Services Division to meet monitoring and reporting

Qualifications

• Three years of increasingly responsible experience performing laboratory analyses with supervisory responsibility.
• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science or related field.
• Valid California driver’s license.
• Must obtain Grade II Laboratory Analyst Certificate within 2.5 years and Grade III within 4 years of appointment.
• Must complete 40-hour First Responder Training within two years of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, direct, and supervise staff and operations in support of the Laboratory and Environmental Monitoring Program.
• Maintain compliance with federal/state mandates, approved standards, QA/QC for sampling and discharges.
• Direct monitoring, sampling, and record keeping for permit compliance.
