Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to oversee facilities, manage personnel, and ensure timely test results in accordance with accrediting agencies and internal standards.

The role requires a Bachelor of Science in lab science or equivalent, with 4 years of clinical lab experience. NY locations may require NY licensure and ASCP certification. Excellent leadership and communication are essential for success in this position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science, OR a successfully completed HEW (HHS) proficiency examination, and 4 years Clinical Laboratory experience.
• Bachelor degrees in a non-science will be considered only if candidate meets ‘general supervisor’ qualifications per CLIA ’88 regulatory standards.
• ASCP certification preferred for NY locations.
• Act 34 licensure required for applicable locations.

Responsibilities

• Investigates and develops new techniques and instrumentation. Promotes continuous quality improvement activities.
• Interviews and selects personnel, coaches staff, and initiates corrective actions as necessary.
• Ensures adherence to departmental and hospital policies; maintains up-to-date policies per regulatory guidelines.
• Completes projects assigned by Laboratory Director or Manager in a timely fashion.
• Develops annual budgets and manages budgets per financial guidelines; investigates variances.
