Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor for our Cleveland-based chemical laboratory. The role requires supervising hourly union employees, ensuring safety and quality, maintaining equipment, and coordinating with operations to support manufacturing with timely, reliable lab results.

Preferred candidates hold a chemistry-related degree; strong analytical and communication skills; and experience with ASTM methods and audit readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in technical sciences or engineering or equivalent experience.
• Supervisory experience required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Advanced computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to thrive in a diverse, dynamic environment.
• Demonstrated problem-solving and continuous improvement mindset.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety, quality, and environmental standards compliance.
• Supervise, train, schedule, and manage safety of hourly union employees.
• Communicate clearly within the team and with operations.
• Develop and implement processes for timely, accurate results; drive continuous improvement.
• Prepare for and participate in audits (Quality, Safety, Environmental); engage ISO/IEC standards.
• Develop analytical methods; apply ASTM and other test methods; create new methods as needed.
• Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot lab equipment; ensure reliable support for manufacturing.
• Create and maintain work instructions for lab procedures.
• Manage inventory of lab chemicals and equipment within budget.
