Job Summary:
The Laboratory Supervisor oversees daily operations of Hematology, Chemistry, and Immunology testing areas. Responsibilities include ensuring testing accuracy and efficiency, maintaining regulatory compliance, managing staff, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to support patient care and enhance laboratory services.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervision and Leadership:
    • Lead and mentor laboratory staff, guiding technical procedures and professional development.
    • Schedule and assign tasks to ensure optimal workflow and coverage.
    • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback.
  2. Quality Assurance and Compliance:
    • Ensure adherence to standards like CLIA/COLA and accreditation requirements.
    • Develop and monitor quality control and assurance programs.
    • Investigate and address quality issues.
  3. Operational Management:
    • Oversee daily blood testing operations, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
    • Manage inventory and supplies across departments.
    • Assist with budgeting and financial management.
  4. Technical Expertise:
    • Maintain proficiency in testing procedures and protocols.
    • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues.
    • Stay updated on laboratory advancements and incorporate new technologies.
  5. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work with physicians and staff on test results and clinical insights.
    • Ensure effective communication within the lab and with other departments.
    • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings.
  6. Training and Education:
    • Train new staff and students.
    • Create educational materials and conduct training on procedures and safety.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • ASCP or equivalent certification (MT or CLS).
  • At least 5 years in a clinical lab, with 1+ year in supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of hematology, chemistry, and immunology testing.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in laboratory information systems and electronic health records.
  • Experience with lab test development/start-up is a plus.
