Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, seeks a Laboratory Supervisor to oversee daily lab operations under the Lab Director/Manager. You will coordinate staff, schedules and bench work, while ensuring compliance with policies and regulatory requirements.

You’ll lead training, performance reviews, and competency assessments, interfacing with physicians and staff. Strong communication, problem solving and teamwork are essential in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in medical technology or related science required, or equivalent with certification.
• MT (ASCP), CLS (NCA), MLS (ASCP) or equivalents required. Job duties may dictate the allowable certification.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in an accredited laboratory.
• 3 years’ experience as a lead tech or supervisory position preferred.
• Hospital laboratory and supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills and written/verbal communication; problem solving and accuracy essential.
• Flexible, self-motivated, team player with initiative and independent judgment.
• Broad current knowledge of the laboratory; ability to work under stress.

Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the general supervision of the Lab Director or Lab Manager, the Lab Supervisor

• Coordinates and supervises the flow of thedaily activities in Lab, may prepare schedules for assigned staff, assist in the triage of open/available shifts.
• May interview candidatesfor positions in assigned areas.
• May perform performance appraisals of assigned team members and completes areas’ payroll recordsas needed.
• Will be tasked with coordinating employee training and review of employee initial, semi-annual and annual competencies.
• Assists with creating and implementation and review of policies and procedures to meet the various accrediting agencies’ regulationsand laws. Along with the Lab Director/Manager the Lab Supervisor would be involved with project planning and/or implementationand follow up.
• The Lab Supervisor may be responsible for interfacing with other departments, physicians and their office staff,patients and their families, visitors and Lab employees, as needed and acts in concert with the Laboratory Director/Manager tocounsel employees for performance evaluations and / or disciplinary action, as needed.
• Plans and coordinates daily activities forlaboratory personnel including covering for bench work, reference lab work pending/review/report.
• May be assigned quality and datareviews, supply evaluation and ordering, workflow monitoring, safety and ergonomic evaluations – to include environment of carerounds, regulatory reviews, inspections and follow-up when needed.
• The Lab Supervisor will be well-versed in equipmentmaintenance, quality data, proficiency and regulatory data/inspections/reviews and process improvement projects.

What qualifications you will need:

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor degree in medical technology or related science required OR Bachelor degree and certification insubspecialty area OR “Grandfathered” as a medical technologist by CLIA 88.
• MT (ASCP), CLS (NCA), MLS (ASCP) or, as appropriate, BB(ASCP), C(ASCP), I (ASCP), H(ASCP), orM(ASCP) certification or equivalent required. Job duties may dictate the allowable certification.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in an accredited laboratory required.
• 3 years’ experience as a lead tech orsupervisory position preferred.
• Hospital laboratory and supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills as well as written and verbal communication. Must have problem solving skills and beable to follow verbal and written directions accurately.
• Flexible and self-motivated. A team player with the abilityto interact with all contacts in a pleasant, positive and courteous manner.
• Able to handle periods of intensity withcalm. Capable of functioning with initiative and independent judgment.
• Must have current broad knowledge of the laboratory. Able to work in stressful situations while maintaining composure and perform the required duties.
