Job summary

South Shore Health in Weymouth, MA is seeking a Lab Specimen Processing Technician to support the SSH Lab Specimen Processing department. Under supervision, you will process specimens, log and accession samples, and ensure proper labeling and handling according to policy.

You will enter tests in the LIS, prepare specimens for testing, handle phone inquiries, generate reports, monitor temperatures, and maintain a clean, safe work area in a day shift.

Responsibilities

• Receives, logs-in, and assigns accession numbers to specimens.
• Verifies labels match patient information and applies barcodes.
• Prepares specimens per Reference Laboratory requirements and centrifuges as needed.
• Enters tests and specimen data into the LIS and documents cancellations.
• Answers phones and communicates reports to nursing floors and offsite facilities.
• Maintains clean work area and monitors refrigerator/freezer temperatures and PPE usage.
