Job summary

Prime Healthcare is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform a broad range of laboratory procedures with independent judgment across hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and more at Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, IL. The role requires ASCP certification (preferred), a Bachelor’s degree in a health science, and state licensure where required.

The position may involve Lead Tech duties and alignment with CLIA regulations.

Qualifications

• ASCP certification preferred.
• 1 year hospital laboratory work experience preferred, but not required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science or Medical Laboratory Technology.
• Current and Valid State License if required by state.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
• Follow quality control policies and document corrective actions.
• Identify problems affecting test performance and notify supervisor or Medical Director.
• Perform wide range of laboratory procedures across multiple disciplines.
• Perform and document maintenance on instruments and equipment.
• Review accuracy of patient results prior to reporting.
• Recognize age-specific differences in results between newborns and geriatrics.
• May perform venipuncture or capillary puncture.
• Assist in development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
• Adhere to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, HR policies.
• In absence of supervisor, may serve as Lead Tech.
• May be assigned LIS and/or POCT responsibilities.
• Other tasks assigned by department manager/director.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1423).

Current and Valid State License if the laboratory is located in a state where required.
