Job summary

Logan Health Shelby is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support routine lab operations, handling specimens, preparing samples, and processing requests in accordance with department protocols.

The role requires basic medical terminology knowledge, strong organization, and excellent communication. Work shifts are variable, with opportunities for PRN coverage to support the lab’s 24/7 operations.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year’s experience in laboratory clinical or pathology section preferred.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology required.
• Anatomy & Physiology coursework or related field preferred.
• Promotes excellence through high standards and quality outcomes.
• Integrity, kindness, empathy, and confidentiality are essential.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; teamwork and independence.
• MS Office proficiency and ability to learn other software.

Responsibilities

• Assist with loading/unloading centrifuges, specimen handling, and inventory control.
• Prepare specimens to expedite diagnosis and ensure proper processing.
• Adhere to all specimen processing procedures and documentation.
• Coordinate with stakeholders during daily workflow per department protocol.
• Check equipment temperatures and locate specimens as needed.
• Order and cancel tests in LIS; verify patient identification and information.
