Job summary

SouthCoast Health in New Bedford, MA is seeking a Laboratory Lead Technologist to oversee the Laboratory/Pathology Department on the night shift. The role includes leading staff, coordinating scheduling, and ensuring quality and safety standards.

A Bachelor’s in Medical Technology with ASCP or equivalent certification is required, with Generalist experience preferred. Duties include performing analyses, training staff, and maintaining compliance with OSHA and POC programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent; minimum 36 semester hours in biology and physical sciences.
• MT (ASCP) certification or comparable agency approved by NC Health Certifying agencies required by hire.
• Generalist Technologist experience preferred.
• Role requires work in Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank and limited Microbiology testing.
• Fully vaccinated against seasonal influenza and COVID-19 or eligible for exemption with signed statement.

Responsibilities

• Support and assist Laboratory/Pathology Department operations.
• Perform laboratory analyses and identify critical or unexpected results.
• Consult with vendors to troubleshoot malfunctions.
• Investigate incidents, document and report findings.
• Prioritize and schedule staff assignments; train staff (4+ in-service trainings annually).

Hours: 40hrs

Shift: Night shift, 11:00pm - 7:00am with weekend and holiday rotation

Location: St. Luke's Hospital - New Bedford, MA

Available to regular status employees who are scheduled to work a minimum of 24 hours.

Under general direction of the Manager, Laboratory Site or designee, perform various duties to support and in support of the Laboratory/Pathology Department. Perform laboratory analyses and identify critical or unexpected results, consult with vendors to troubleshoot malfunctions, investigate all incidents, document and report all findings. Serve as department resource, prioritize and schedule staff assignments, prepare and present at least 4 in-service trainings annually, and insure compliance with all safety regulations and standards including POC programs and OSHA regulations. Perform other related duties within the scope of position as required or assigned.

• A Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent (minimum of 36 semester hours in biology and physical sciences) and up to and including three years of work-related experience.
• Certification as Medical Technologist such as MT (A.S.C.P.) or comparable agency approved by the National Commission for Health Certifying agencies is required upon date of hire and if applicable maintain certification through ASCP or comparable approved agency.
• Experience as a Generalist Technologist is preferred.
• Position will require working in Chemistry, Hematolgy and Blood Bank and limited Microbiology testing.
• Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal Influenza and the COVID 19 virus or to be exempt from the requirement for medical or personal reasons by signing a statement certifying you are choosing to be exempt from vaccination once hired

Compensation: Pay rate will be determined based on level of experience.
