HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

This is a full-time staff position that requires an on-campuspresence of 40 hours per week to support the daily operations ofthe laboratories and provide direct support to instructionalactivities.

Primary responsibilities include implementing and enforcing alllaboratory safety procedures; supervising, training, and evaluatinglaboratory technicians and student workers; procuring materials,supplies, and equipment necessary for laboratory operations andinstructional support; maintaining equipment inventories; obtainingvendor quotations; updating purchasing and ordering logs; andmaintaining departmental records as requested by the DepartmentChair.

The Laboratory Coordinator also supports instructional excellenceby ensuring laboratories are properly prepared for classes and maycontribute to course design, development, and implementation asneeded. This position requires regular collaboration with faculty,staff, and students and a consistent on-campus presence to meet theoperational needs of the department.

The essential duties and responsibilities of theLaboratory Coordinator are the following:

• Teach up to three (3) laboratory courses per semester based ondepartmental instructional needs; provide instructional coveragefor laboratory courses during temporary faculty absences, includingapproved leave, Family and Medical Leave (FMLA), professionalconferences, or other approved university business, as needed; andcollaborate with faculty course coordinators to develop,coordinate, and maintain laboratory schedules for assigned coursesto ensure effective laboratory operations and instructionalsupport.
• Order, prepare, and maintain laboratory supplies, materials,and equipment to support weekly laboratory instruction; develop andmaintain current laboratory procedures manuals for laboratoryinstructors and technicians; recruit, train, and supervise studentassistants and laboratory technicians in accordance withdepartmental policies and approved safety guidelines; andcollaborate with other Laboratory Coordinators in the department topromote consistency in laboratory operations, procedures, andinstructional support across all Perimeter College campuses.
• Maintain laboratory facilities, including laboratory spaces andstorage/preparation rooms, to ensure they are clean, organized,well-equipped, and in compliance with safety standards; oversee theproper storage, maintenance, and organization of laboratorymaterials and equipment; and coordinate the identification andtransfer of obsolete or unused equipment and materials toUniversity Surplus in accordance with university policies.
• Coordinate the procurement of laboratory supplies, materials,and equipment by placing orders, obtaining vendor quotations,securing required purchase approvals from the Associate Chair,maintaining procurement documentation and P-Card logs (whenassigned a University P-Card), overseeing preventive maintenance oflaboratory equipment, and reporting equipment failures andresolutions to the Department Chair to ensure uninterruptedlaboratory operations.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for part-time laboratoryinstructors by providing guidance on laboratory policies,protocols, procedures, and course content; coordinating onboardingand training; communicating departmental expectations; andproviding ongoing instructional and operational support to ensurethe consistent delivery of laboratory instruction across thedepartment.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:

• Master's degree in the assigned research area or;
• Bachelor's degree in the assigned research area and two yearsof related experience, or a combination of education and relatedexperience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

• College teaching experience preferred.
• Experience with setting up, maintaining and using various labequipment.
• Ability to trouble shoot problems and effectively communicate withdirect supervisors.
• Master's degree in Chemistry preferred.
• Knowledge of tools and equipment needed for the labs, as well ashow to safely use them; safety regulations, procedures &practices; current software needed for instruction.
• Ability to lift or move equipment in the lab.
• Collegiate biology teaching experience.
