Job summary

The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA seeks a dedicated Lab Support Specialist to communicate patient results clearly to laboratory clients and to serve as a resource on test requirements, specimen submission, and lab policies.

The role also provides dispatch support for lab couriers, trains new staff, and participates in area‑specific support activities, with additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; or MLA CSC and CLIA education requirements.
• Experience: 2 years relevant experience; or MLA CSC with no experience required.
• License/Certification: MLA(ASCP) within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Communicates patient results clearly, accurately and effectively to laboratory clients.
• Serves as a resource to clients regarding test requirements, specimen submission and other laboratory policies and procedures.
• Serves as a dispatch service for lab couriers.
• Serves as trainer and role model for new staff.
• Performs area‑specific support activities.
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
