Job summary

Fairview Reference Laboratory is seeking an experienced phlebotomist to join the Mobile Care Team on a part-time basis (0.6FTE). 4:00am–12:30pm, Monday to Wednesday, with occasional weekend shifts and opportunities for extra shifts/overtime.

Travel within a ~50 mile radius of the metro area to Transitional Care, Memory Care, and Assisted Care facilities. The role involves collecting specimens, interacting with diverse patient populations, and working independently or as part of the team to

Qualifications

  • Completion of a formal phlebotomy education program.
  • Completion of three months of full-time clinical phlebotomy and laboratory experience or enrollment in an MLT/MLS program with a phlebotomy course.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a successful customer service background with diverse populations.
  • Must maintain active insurance and have access to reliable transportation.
  • Knowledge of metro area and ability to follow driving directions; valid driver's license upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain blood specimens for all identified patient populations and ensure specimens are acceptable for testing.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the clinical laboratory and medical terminology.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and build rapport with patients.
  • Arrange transportation of blood and body fluids under proper conditions and log specimens accurately.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and infection control guidelines.
  • Prioritize work and work both independently and as part of a team.

Job Overview

Fairview Reference Laboratory is looking for an experienced phlebotomist to join our Mobile Care Team.

This is a part-time, benefit eligible opportunity, 48 hours/2 weeks (0.6FTE). Hours are 4:00am - 12:30pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Occasional Weekend shifts as needed and with the opportunity to pick up additional shifts and/or overtime. Locations include Transitional Care facilities, Memory Care facilities, and Assisted Care facilities within about 50 miles radius of the metro area.

Working with diverse populations within a healthcare environment, the Laboratory Care Technician - Mobile (MLCT) plays an important role in providing quality, proficient and professional services in keeping with M Health Fairview values as they interact with our patients, families, and co-workers. The MLCT performs laboratory specimen collection for home bound or nursing home patients throughout the Metropolitan area supported by M Health Fairview. Responsible for and collection information into the Laboratory Information System and associated subsystems. The Laboratory Care Technician - Mobile's attention to detail and accuracy are the foundation for our providing quality laboratory services. Working as an individual or team member, the MLCT continuously works towards providing quality service improvement and optimum support to the department and team members in achieving M Health Fairview's goals.

Responsibilities
  • Obtains blood specimens for all identified patient populations and ensures specimens are acceptable for testing including following proper identification measures.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of the clinical laboratory and understands medical terminology.
  • Demonstrates a rapport with the patient, showing concern and comfort for the patient and exercising exceptional customer service skills.
  • Arranges for transportation of blood and body fluid under proper conditions and in a timely and safe manner and maintains specimen log sheets accurately.
  • Adheres to safety protocols and infection control guidelines.
  • Prioritizes assigned work and exhibits superior quality in that work.
  • Works independently as well as part of a team.
Required Qualifications
  • Completion of a formal phlebotomy education program or
  • Completion of three months of full-time clinical phlebotomy and laboratory experience or
  • Enrollment in MLT or MLS program including completion of a phlebotomy course.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Successful customer service background within a diverse cultural setting.
  • Must have access to reliable vehicle and
  • Must maintain and provide proof of active insurance.
  • Knowledge of metro area and can follow driving directions.
  • Drivers License must be current and valid Upon Hire
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior laboratory experience in a hospital or clinic setting in a similar capacity.
