Laboratory Automation Engineer – Des Moines

Dynamic Devices provides cutting‑edge liquid handling lab automation workstations to the Life Sciences and Clinical/Diagnostic industries. We are a highly mobile and aggressive innovator in this market space. We offer reliable and unique systems to enable the research scientist to get work done in an accelerated fashion.

Position: Laboratory Automation Engineer

We are currently looking for a Laboratory Automation Engineer. This individual will be involved with supporting the territory in keeping the system equipment in optimal shape for our customer base. This will start with installation, training, and application support. Programming as well as system support and preventative maintenance are also part of the candidate’s duties. The position will work closely with sales (both pre‑sales and post‑sales) to assist in instrument demonstrations or other tasks to grow the business. As part of a small elite team, we will look to you to help with identifying new trends, contribute to documentation or tech notes, and streamline applications as needed. We are looking for a quick learner that can operate independently yet cooperatively to support those innovations as well as keeping the existing installation base operational and instilling confidence in our products.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and support instrument methods for a diverse customer base
  • Understand and analyze project requirements and translate those into programming deliverables
  • Work with internal engineers to provide feedback on products for improvement
  • Work with R&D on product testing
  • Work as part of a cross‑trained and highly dynamic team (hardware, software, applications)
  • Willingness to complete your tasks, even when outside the normal scope, to help reach goals
  • Coordinate expectations on shipping and installation logistics for installations
  • Schedule & coordinate preventative maintenance each month to be completed
  • Receive customer calls for service‑related issues. Triage and assess remotely or in‑person
Qualifications
  • BS/BA in Biology, Computer Science or applied engineering discipline
  • Solid programming experience with automation
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Willingness to travel (30‑50%)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Based in Polk City, IA
Preferred Skills (Pluses)
  • Prior track record of implementing lab automation in the life sciences
  • Understanding of computer communications (TCP/IP, RS232) & networking
  • Comfortable working with hardware and willing to learn
  • Comfort with scripting languages (predominantly C#) and willingness to learn programming languages to embellish system capabilities
  • Willingness to share your knowledge and experience for the benefit of the team or product
