Responsibilities

Job Summary / Purpose

Primarily works in the lab technical departments. Assists with technical procedures within regulatory guidelines. Handles telephone calls and other clerical duties. May perform CLIA-waived and moderate complex testing, and provide phlebotomy support, as permitted by local and state regulations.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

1. Practice positive patient identification at all times. Receive and prepare specimens for analysis, ensuring proper labeling and aliquoting.
2. Manage specimen intake, processing, and organization for testing.
3. Support department functions such as culture plating, histology staining, and loading specimens onto instruments based on departmental needs.
4. Review pending test lists to help maintain departmental turnaround times.
5. Assist in resolving issues, investigating specimen problems, and responding to customer inquiries. Communicate testing and specimen status appropriately.
6. Monitor and restock supplies and reagents, logging usage according to protocols.
7. Perform and document calibrations, linearity tests, and instrument comparisons under supervision.
8. Conduct routine equipment maintenance and keep accurate records. Demonstrate competency in operating and troubleshooting equipment.
9. If permitted, perform phlebotomy following proper procedures, including venous and capillary punctures for all patient age groups, adhering to volume and quality standards.

Following local and state regulations, perform CLIA-waived and moderate complexity testing according to written policies. Evaluate and release test results under supervision, considering quality control, instrument performance, specimen integrity, and prior results.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience	High School Diploma or GED
Required Certification and License	Nevada: CLA:NV. Other state licenses not required.
Preferred Certifications	Phlebotomy program certificate, Lab Assistant Program certification
Preferred Experience	Six months experience in an acute care facility
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training	Excellent customer service and time management skills
