Job summary

HCA Florida Lake City Hospital is seeking a PRN Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist to join the team. You will collect specimens, perform venipuncture and heel sticks as needed, process and register specimens, and support the lab with clerical duties and documentation.

Qualification includes 2+ years in a clinical lab setting preferred, plus phlebotomy or related certification. This PRN role emphasizes accuracy, patient education, and adherence to safety policies.

Qualifications

• Vocational/Technical degree preferred.
• 1-3 years in a clinical laboratory setting preferred.
• Phlebotomy, Medical Assistant, Paramedic or EMT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates thorough understanding of specimen collection and testing requirements, including rejection criteria.
• Proficient venipuncture and/or finger sticks across age groups; heel sticks for infants.
• Utilizes supplies appropriately and follows identification procedures.
• Completes specimen collection documentation and enters orders accurately.
• Educates patients/families on specimen collection procedures.
• Uses laboratory information system for job functions and records.
• Performs clerical duties (faxing, phones, pneumatic tube system, reports).
• Monitors OSR and pending specimen collections; takes appropriate action.
• Receives specimens into LIS and performs registration and order entry as requested.
