Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center in Lancaster, PA is seeking a Laboratory Assistant for the Pathology Laboratory. The role involves performing phlebotomies on patients of all ages, handling registrations, and ordering tests in the EMR, as well as processing specimens.

You will collect specialized tests and run breath alcohol testing, working evening shifts with a $2.00/hour evening shift differential. Full-time 1.0 FTE, 5-8 hour shifts, every third weekend.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Phlebotomy, CNA, or MA training preferred.
  • ASCP or NHA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform phlebotomies across all ages.
  • Register patients and order lab tests in the EMR.
  • Process laboratory specimens and collect specialized tests.
  • Perform breath alcohol testing.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The laboratory assistant is responsible for performing phlebotomies on patients of all age groups, performing patient registrations and ordering laboratory tests in the EMR, processing of laboratory specimens, the collection of specialized tests, and performing breath alcohol testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
  • High school graduate or equivalent required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
  • Completion of a phlebotomy, certified nursing assistant, or medical assistant training course.
  • Certification with ASCP or the National Healthcareer Association, Inc. as a certified phlebotomy technician or other discipline listed above.
  • Must have the ability to work well under pressure and multitask in a fast paced environment.
  • Medical terminology is helpful.
