Job summary

Park Nicollet Health Services is seeking a Laboratory Assistant, Outreach Phlebotomist to join our team. The role encompasses specimen collection, phlebotomy, and a mix of client service duties, reception, ordering, scheduling, and billing support to ensure efficient laboratory workflows.

The ideal candidate will have phlebotomy experience (1 year preferred) and ASCP certification is preferred; valid driver's license is required for vehicle operation as part of outreach responsibilities.

  • Must safely operate Park Nicollet vehicles; valid driver’s license required.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage time-sensitive requests and maintain accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specimen collection (phlebotomy) and assist with specimen handling and processing.
  • Provide client service at reception and scheduling tasks; assist with billing functions as needed.
  • Dispatch, centrifuge, and deliver specimens to the appropriate laboratory/department; support workflow efficiency.

Position Summary:

The Laboratory Assistant will provide a wide range of laboratory services including specimen collection, client service and reception desk duties, ordering/ scheduling/ billing functions, laboratory testing, phlebotomy, dispatching, specimen processing, centrifuging, delivery of specimens to appropriate laboratory/department and assuring proper efficiency and workflow management. Position will also serve as a resource for questions from hospital and clinic staff regarding specimen handling and processing.

Required Qualifications
Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:
  • Safely and legally operate Park Nicollet vehicles, must have a valid driver’s license. May be required to drive personal car on an occasional basis.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Strong customer service skills, ability to work independently, good problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills with the ability to meet time-sensitive customer requests and changes on short notice.
Preferred Qualifications
Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:
  • One year phlebotomy experience preferred.
Licensure/ Registration/ Certification
  • ASCP certification for phlebotomy preferred.
