Qualifications

• One year as Laboratory Assistant I, or two years full-time lab experience.
• Experience with preparing media, acids, chemical reagents and sterilization of equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation of tests under supervision and prepare media.
• Operate autoclaves, distillers, centrifuges and glassware washer; perform equipment maintenance.
• Perform venous and skin punctures to obtain blood samples.
• Maintain and sterilize glassware; keep work areas clean and organized; prepare and sterilize supplies.
• Prepare acids and chemical reagents for cleaning following procedures.
• Collect specimens from wards and log results; route specimens correctly.
• Maintain stock and records of laboratory supplies and materials.
• Handle clerical duties: charging slips, logging requests, recording temperatures.
• With proper training, perform punctures for blood samples.

Education

One year as Laboratory Assistant I

Two years full-time work experience in a clinical laboratory or related unit
