Works within compliance and regulatory parameters while completing the receipt, registration, order entry, and labeling of a large volume of specimens in the appropriate computer system.
Resolves specimen submission issues.
Manages a large volume of telephone calls, filing, and distribution of patient information.
Maintains logs and scans documents into the electronic medical record.
Operates and performs regular preventative maintenance and basic troubleshooting on a variety of departmental instruments.
May require knowledge of esoteric test requests by physicians, involving order entry and processing of specimens, including assisting with specimen handling at FNA and biopsy procedures.
Ensures complete accuracy due to the direct impact on patient care.
Works independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines.
Reading Hospital's Laboratory is CAP accredited, offering specialized testing, lab automation, and state-of-the-art equipment. The lab provides cross-training opportunities and participates in cross-function process improvement teams. In Fiscal Year 2023, the lab performed 8.5 million tests across various disciplines, including Chemistry, Cytology, Flow Cytometry, Hematology, Coagulation, Histology, Microbiology, Point of Care Testing, Transfusion Services, and Urinalysis, along with 122,751 Anatomical Pathology tests and 404,139 inpatient & outpatient phlebotomy draws. The department comprises over 200 medical laboratory professionals. The lab offers opportunities for career advancement and continued growth, including career ladders for Phlebotomists and Lab Assistants.
