Job summary

ECU Health North Hospital in North Carolina is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to process outpatient test requests and support the laboratory operations.

You will perform venous and capillary blood collection, with supervision for waived and moderately complex testing, and ensure accurate documentation and regulatory compliance. The role offers a 40-hour week with a 1 pm–9:30 pm shift and weekend/holiday rotations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation recommended.
• Completion of a phlebotomy training program is preferred.

Position Summary

The Laboratory Assistant processes outpatient test requests.

As a Laboratory Assistant, You Will

• Perform venous and capillary collection of blood specimens for analysis and process specimens for analysis and reference testing. With supervision, may perform waived and moderately complex testing and may perform chain-of-custody drug collections. Perform various other support services for the laboratory as assigned and maintain required documentation to comply with accrediting agencies.
• Perform duties consistent with written procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Support the department in achieving department goals for service, quality, regulatory compliance, financial performance, patient satisfaction, healthy work environment, and integration of intra and inter-departmental activities.

Minimum Requirements

• High School Diploma, Equivalent, or higher
• Completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation is recommended

Preferred

• 6 months experience in a hospital or reference laboratory setting, physician office, outpatient clinic, or other medical setting

Phlebotomy certification by ASCP or another nationally recognized certifying agency is preferred: National Healthcare Association (NHA) --Clinical Laboratory Phlebotomy Examination (CLPlb), American Society of Clinical Pathologists-- Phlebotomy Technician Examination [PBT(ASCP)], International Academy of Phlebotomy Sciences (IAPS), National Phlebotomy Association (NPA), American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT), National Phlebotomy Certification Examination (NPCE), National Phlebotomy Solutions (NPS), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or another national certification as approved by Laboratory Service Line leadership.

• Laboratory Assistant I: $18.00 - $23.31

• 40 hours per week
