Job summary

ECU Health Medical Center in North Carolina seeks a Laboratory Assistant to process outpatient test requests. The role includes blood collection, supervised testing, and supporting lab operations to meet quality and regulatory standards.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or higher and phlebotomy training; 6 months hospital or clinical experience is preferred. Certification is preferred. Salary range is shown in the lab pay ladder.

Qualifications

• High School, Equivalent, or higher.
• Completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation is recommended.
• 6 months experience in a hospital or reference laboratory setting, physician office, outpatient clinic, or other medical setting.
• Phlebotomy certification by ASCP or another nationally recognized certifying agency is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform venous and capillary collection of blood specimens for analysis.
• With supervision, may perform waived and moderately complex testing and perform chain-of-custody drug collections.
• Performs various other support services for the laboratory as assigned. Maintains required documentation to comply with accrediting agencies.
• Performs duties consistent with written procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Supports the department in achieving department goals for service, quality, regulatory compliance, financial performance, patient satisfaction, healthy work environment, and integration of intra and inter-departmental activities.
