Responsibilities
Job Summary

Collect samples for testing, including phlebotomy, venous and capillary punctures, and urine collections for medical and legal testing. Additional duties include:

  • Computer inquiry and data entry for patient demographics and test orders in compliance with regulations.
  • Processing and preparing samples for testing and transportation.
  • Guiding new staff on procedures and policies.

Work must adhere to all regulatory standards. Effective communication, customer service, and knowledge of laboratory procedures and equipment are essential. Some tasks may require out-of-office travel.

Essential Job Duties
  • Perform venipuncture, capillary collections, and special collections, including urine drug screens and Breath Alcohol Testing, on pediatric and adult patients.
  • Follow DOT standards for drug testing.
  • Support communication using established customer service standards.
  • Use hospital and lab information systems for ordering, labeling, logging, and managing samples.
  • Process samples by verifying identity, labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, and preserving integrity.
  • Maintain audit trails and resolve ambiguities according to department procedures.
Qualifications
Education/Work Experience

High school diploma or GED plus completion of a phlebotomy course at a vocational or technical school, including a 4-week internship, OR equivalent on-the-job training with recent lab experience. Two years of related clinical lab experience and one year of insurance collection/data entry experience are preferred.

Licensure/Certification
  • Current Washington State Medical Assistant certification, OR
  • Current Washington State Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist certification within 60 days of hire, OR
  • National registration with ASCP in Phlebotomy is preferred.

Pay Range: $21.16 - $30.15/hour
