The Department of Biology at UNC-Chapel Hill is dedicated to the discovery and dissemination of knowledge in Biology by maintaining a high-quality faculty who integrate cutting-edge research with student-focused teaching.
As one of the largest academic departments in the College of Arts and Sciences, we have over 3,000 majors and intend majors, and enroll over 5,000 undergraduates annually. Our research expenditures exceed $24 million annually, supported largely by grants. The department includes 54 tenure-track faculty, 16 teaching faculty, 10 research faculty, and numerous adjunct and emeritus faculty engaged in research and teaching across multiple disciplines.
Our department supports 52 graduate students, 30 post-docs, and employs approximately 85 additional students from across the university. Our administrative staff consists of 19 members, with an additional 45 staff supporting research activities.
The Peifer lab studies embryonic development using genetic, cell biological, and biochemical tools, with Drosophila as the model organism.
The Laboratory Assistant will supervise the care of Drosophila stocks.
Demonstrated competencies necessary to perform the work.
Experience in lab animal care, preferably with Drosophila.
Additional qualifications and experience as relevant.
