Summary

Under the direction of the Technical Specialist and Manager, performs specimen processing functions and non-technical duties as assigned. Works in various laboratory areas, registering patients, collecting samples, and assessing sample acceptability. Processes samples for testing, including centrifugation, aliquoting, storage, and shipping. Supports clinical testing by preparing slides, loading instruments, and reporting results. Performs waived and point-of-care testing and phlebotomy.

Minimum Education
  • High school diploma or GED required. Knowledge of medical terminology and computer skills preferred.
  • Phlebotomy training required; certification eligibility preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
  • One year of full-time specimen processing, phlebotomy, or equivalent experience preferred.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Ability to accept responsibility, make decisions, and work as part of a team.
  • Maintain effective working relationships within the section.
  • Operate laboratory equipment at sitting or standing levels.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work additional hours or shifts under stress.
  • Effective communication skills, including listening, writing, speaking, and reading. Ability to communicate via telephone, LIS, email, and verbally.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Knowledge of laboratory functions, specimen requirements, and processing.
