Job Summary

Under the direction of the Technical Specialist and Manager, performs specimen processing functions and non-technical duties. Works in various laboratory areas, including registering patients, collecting samples, and assessing sample acceptability. Processes samples for testing, including centrifugation, aliquoting, storage, and shipping. Supports clinical testing by preparing slides, loading instruments, and reporting results. Performs waived and point-of-care testing, as well as phlebotomy.

Minimum Education
  • High school diploma or GED required. Knowledge of medical terminology and computer skills preferred.
  • Phlebotomy training required; certification eligibility is preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
  • One year of full-time specimen processing, phlebotomy, or equivalent experience preferred.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Ability to accept responsibility, make decisions, and work collaboratively.
  • Maintain effective working relationships within the section.
  • Operate laboratory equipment at sitting or standing levels.
  • Adaptability to additional hours, shifts, and stress.
  • Effective communication skills, including listening, writing, speaking, and reading, via telephone, LIS, email, and verbally.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of laboratory functions, specimen requirements, and processing.
Required Licenses and Certifications

Phlebotomy certification or eligibility is preferred.
