Job summary

Summit Pathology is seeking a Lab Assistant/Specimen Accessioner for an evening schedule (12:30p-9:00p, Mon-Fri). You will accession specimens, enter patient demographics, and ensure accurate data handling while coordinating with histology, cytology, and molecular teams.

Qualifications include a high school diploma (some college preferred) and data entry or lab healthcare experience. Excellent customer service and the ability to work independently are required.

Responsibilities

  • Specimen receiving and data entry of patient demographics and specimen information.
  • Assess specimen quality, correct as needed, and prepare for processing.
  • Accurately identify and accession numbers and names.
  • Perform quality control of requisitions and filing of slides/blocks.
  • Maintain filing room and assist with tissue processors as needed.
  • Handle phone calls with proper etiquette and triage inquiries.
  • Collaborate with clients to resolve discrepancies on specimens or paperwork.
  • Operate and reconcile multiple computer systems for accessioning.
  • Pursue continuing education to keep skills up-to-date.
  • Apply independent judgment and follow safety standards in all duties.

Is looking to add anenthusiastic team player to our fast - paced, growing Pathology Company, as aLab Assistant/Specimen Accessioner. This is an evening shift with hours of 12:30p-9:00p M-F. This position will be posted until filled.

As a Lab Aide - Accessioner, you will be working closely with the Accessioning Director, Histology, Cytology and Molecular Supervisors & Team Leads. Furthermore you will have the opportunity to work withSummit's Pathologists and other laboratory staff.

We have been serving hospital systems and physician offices in Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska for more than thirty five years. With a variety of subspecialties, Summit Pathology offers world class expertise, state of the art disease detection and exceptional customer service. We take pride in providing outstanding general surgical pathology as well as high level expertise in additional areas such as breast pathology, cytopathology, hematopathology (including flow cytometry), gastrointestinal pathology, dermatopathology, transfusion medicine, microbiology and clinical chemistry.

*Starting pay for this position is $20/hour

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Specimen receiving and data entry of patient demographics and specimen information.
  • Responsible for assessing the specimen quality, making necessary correction, and preparing the specimen for processing or grossing.
  • Accuracy in the identification and accessioning of numbers and names.
  • Quality control of completed requisitions.
  • Filing of slides and blocks and daily maintenance of the filing room.
  • Handling and troubleshooting of tissue processors.
  • Answering phones and triaging phone calls. Proper phone etiquette.
  • Workingwith clients to address and fix any discrepancies on patient specimens or paperwork.
  • Competency and accuracy using multiple computer systems.
  • Maintains current knowledge and skills applicable to job assignment through continuing education or professional organization.
  • Appropriate reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
  • Follows safety standards in all aspects of performance of above functions, reports, removes unsafe equipment and attends safety education sessions.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Education/experience: High school diploma. Some college course work. Previous data entry or laboratory/healthcare experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and to effectively problem-solve issues.
  • Ability to organize work and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain necessary level of confidentiality to protect patient privacy.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Competency and accuracy using multiple computer systems.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, including medical terminology.
