Job summary

Park Nicollet Health Services is hiring a Laboratory Assistant to join our team and support a wide range of laboratory services, including specimen collection, client service, and reception desk duties. You will assist with ordering, scheduling, and billing functions, perform phlebotomy and testing, and help ensure efficient workflow and processing across departments.

Your role includes handling specimen processing, dispatching, centrifuging, and delivering specimens, while serving as a resource

Qualifications

  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact with patients and staff.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of age-related growth and development to ensure patient safety.
  • Strong organizational skills to meet time-sensitive requests.
  • If travel is required, must have a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a wide range of laboratory services including specimen collection and client service.
  • Assist with reception desk duties, scheduling, and billing functions as needed.
  • Perform laboratory testing, phlebotomy, and dispatching tasks as required.
  • Handle specimen processing, centrifuging, and delivery to appropriate departments.
  • Serve as a resource for questions about specimen handling and processing.

Position Summary

The Laboratory Assistant will provide a wide range of laboratory services including specimen collection, client service and reception desk duties, ordering/ scheduling/ billing functions, laboratory testing, phlebotomy, dispatching, specimen processing, centrifuging, delivery of specimens to appropriate laboratory/department and assuring proper efficiency and workflow management. Position will also serve as a resource for questions from hospital and clinic staff regarding specimen handling and processing.

Required Qualifications
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills with the ability to meet time-sensitive customer requests and changes on short notice.
  • If travel is required for the position, team member must have a valid driver’s license and meet the insurability requirements relating to Park Nicollet’s motor vehicle violation criteria.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience in a medical related field or an applied science degree.
  • Certification in phlebotomy and one year hospital experience. ASCP certification for phlebotomy is preferred.
