**Responsibilities**

**Job Summary / Purpose**

Works primarily in the lab specimen processing and intake department. Assists with specimen management and clerical duties as requested. May perform blood collection and specimen processing. If permitted by local/state regulations, may perform waived or moderately complex testing, appropriate to the department's organization.

**Essential Key Job Responsibilities**

  1. Practices positive patient identification at all times, in all job functions.
  2. Demonstrates kindness and courtesy in interactions with patients and co-workers. Maintains effective communication within the department and with other hospital departments.
  3. Ensures smooth department workflow, assists team members to maintain efficiency, and fosters teamwork and collaboration.
  4. Processes specimens into the lab, organizes them for distribution, and moves samples promptly to testing departments.
  5. Handles external testing by processing, organizing, and packaging samples according to procedures.
  6. Uses good judgment in problem-solving and seeks help when necessary.
  7. May perform phlebotomy, following blood collection procedures for all age groups, including blood bank collections, ensuring quality samples and appropriate volume.
  8. May assist in phlebotomy training under supervision.
  9. As permitted by regulations, may perform CLIA waived and moderately complex testing following written policies. Evaluates and releases results under supervision, considering quality control, instrument performance, specimen integrity, and prior results.
  10. Performs routine maintenance on lab equipment and maintains records.
  11. Monitors supply inventory, assists with stocking, and completes reagent logs.

**Qualifications**

**Required Education and Experience**

High School Diploma or GED

**Required Certification and License**

Nevada: CLA:NV

California: PHLEB:CA

Washington: MAP:WA

Other states: Not required

All states: BLS-CPR within 90 days

**Preferred Certifications**

Lab Assistant Program certification

Phlebotomy program certificate

**Preferred Experience**

6 months in an acute care facility

**Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities**

Excellent customer service and time management skills

**Pay Range**

$14.82 - $20.38 per hour
