Job summary

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of labor law, arbitration and related terminology.
• Willingness to travel throughout Michigan.
• Experience with grievances and arbitration processes.
• Excellent written and oral presentation skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise independent judgment.

Responsibilities

• Intake and investigate new grievance/arbitration cases.
• Conduct witness interviews and gather supporting documents.
• Draft summaries, review materials and schedule proceedings.
• Provide assistance at meetings and hearings.
• Manage arbitration preparation and present cases before arbitrators.
• Write legal briefs for arbitration closing arguments.
• Organize and maintain legal files and coordinate meetings.
• Assist members with referrals for non-contractual issues.
• Coordinate with staff for New Employee Orientation (NEO).
• Train stewards in grievance and representation matters.
• Assist in negotiations with state government units.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
