The Firm is hiring an experienced labor-and-employment attorney, with a preference for candidates capable of assuming the role of the Chair of the Labor & Employment practice group--someone who will be, or will become, the face of the practice group and lead the practice group through its continued growth.

The Firm is in search of a bright, dedicated, and highly-motivated attorney who is up for the challenge of working with us to achieve our goal of becoming the preeminent, most trusted legal counsel for small- and mid-sized businesses in Kentucky.

What You'll Be Asked To Do:
  • Draft, review, and negotiate (for employees and employers) all types of employment-related contracts, including employment agreements, contractor agreements, severance and separation agreements, and non-compete agreements and other restrictive covenants.
  • Advise business owners, HR personnel, and management on a wide variety of personnel issues that arise during the employment lifespan, including issues relating to recruiting and hiring, disciplinary action, leaves of absence, internal investigations, and termination/separation.
  • Defend discrimination, retaliation, harassment, and wage-and-hour claims in state and federal courts and administrative agencies, including setting case strategy; taking depositions; preparing pleadings, motions, briefs, and other documents to be filed with the court; and preparing for trial.
  • Assist with labor-and-employment and HR due-diligence activities related to M&A transactions.
  • Perform legal research and draft legal memoranda.
  • Supervise, direct, and oversee the work of midlevel and junior associates, law clerks, paralegals, and other staff members.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice in the Commonwealth of Kentucky (out-of-state candidates willing to sit for the Kentucky bar exam or eligible for admission in Kentucky will be considered).
  • Preferred candidates have a minimum of 8+ years of experience practicing labor-and-employment law.
  • Preferred candidates have a portable book of business (but not required), and compensation will be adjusted accordingly.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws, including the Kentucky Civil Rights Act, the Kentucky Uniform Trade Secrets Act, Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, the Defend Trade Secrets Act, etc.
  • Litigation and dispute resolution experience in state and federal courts and administrative agencies, including the Kentucky Labor Cabinet, the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights, the DOL, and the EEOC.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills.
  • Excellent judgment and discretion, including under pressure and with time constraints.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal concepts in a clear and concise manner to clients and stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
How You'll be Compensated:
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience (and portable book of business, if applicable).
  • 401(k) retirement plan with profit-sharing and safe-harbor (match) contributions.
  • Unlimited PTO.
  • Cell phone stipend.
  • Health insurance (with optional dental and vision coverages).
